I first learned about the life of Chuck Kroger while attending the reunion of former Yosemite park rangers this past week in Yosemite Valley (October 26 through 30, 2008). I was immediately moved by the memorial video of his life made by his friends and companions. Looking back at the dates of his most notable Yosemite climbs, I realize that I might have been involved at the Yosemite Visitor Center in 1970 signing him out for his various ascents of El Capitan.
I enjoyed the chance last week to meet his wife Kathy Green. She is a remarkable woman.
